NHS Gold Self Care Award for St James Primary School

Our photograph shows Noreen Caldwell, NHS Public Engagement and Involvement Manager, presenting the School Gold Award to the school. We were delighted to be awarded the NHS Gold Self Care Award in recognition of our work to promote Wellbeing both within and beyond school. We are the first school in Cheshire to be awarded this and we are thrilled to be leading the way in promoting strategies that help children to build resilience and to promote reflection.

To achieve the criteria for the Gold Award, the school has ensured there is an emotional wellbeing box in each class room which can be used in the 'safe space'. Through our carefully planned curriculum, events and celebrations we aim to provide the children in our school with a toolkit that helps them to deal with any challenges that they may face. The award recognises our work to promote the governments' resilience passport where the children are challenged to try new things, connect with each other and notice e.g. go on a nature trail, visit a local landmark or make a treasure map. The passport encourages family time and helps build children's character and resilience.

We have established a parent's network which supports an interactive group and links with the Emotional Healthy Schools Team. At Audlem St James Primary School, we believe our best resource is each other, so if we have the opportunity to share experience, resources and advice then we will grow in strength. We believe that children, parents and staff working together, with a shared understanding of needs, goals and strategies employed, is the most effective way to work. The children are at the centre of all that we do and promoting wellbeing is the thread that underpins our practice. Our ultimate aim is for the children in our school to feel confident and empowered to 'Let their light shine.' A great achievement for everyone!
