While we now know the date of the EU Referendum, a reminder that Audlem has its very own Referendum on the Neighbourhood Plan before then.

The date for the Audlem referendum is Thursday 24th March.

Postal votes

We have received a number of queries about postal voting. If you might be away on this date and you are on the electoral register for Audlem, you can register for a postal vote so that your voice can be heard. You will need to register with Cheshire East's Election Office as soon as possible by calling 0300 123 5016.

For further details, see Audlem Parish Council report on the 'Neighbourhood Plan Newsletter' published today on AudlemOnline.

Proxy votes

A local resident writes: "When we enquired initially for a postal vote for the Neighbourhood Plan referendum (see February 9th story) we found it difficult to give an address where we will be to receive the voting paper etc.

"So after discussing it with the Election Office, we went instead for a proxy vote, whereby we entrust somebody else to vote on our behalf.

"When the application form for this arrives, it suggests that you have to be in one of several specific criteria (e.g. armed forces or whatever) to be eligible. However on discussion with the Office we found that they are prepared to allow one to have a proxy vote on a one-time-only basis if one is for example, abroad on holiday.

"The phone number to ring is the same one as for postal votes (0300 123 5016) and they were very helpful."
