Audlem Online has received this monthly report from Burleydam: "It was 62 years ago this month since Burleydam and District Women's Institute was formed and we celebrated at our Birthday meeting on 3rd July. Members from neighbouring WI's in South Cheshire and North Shropshire joined us and the Committee put on a supper of local cheeses, pate and salad which was much enjoyed."

"Members were sorry to hear that Secretary, Doreen Hayward, had been taken ill and was in hospital. Good wishes for a speedy recovery were sent. Mary Stevenson ably combined two roles for the meeting; Treasurer and Secretary. The speaker was Ann Blackburn who demonstrated some flower arrangements suitable for table decorations, birthday presents or even get well presents for hospital patients. Ann made it look very easy and her choice of flowers, readily found in supermarkets, meant that any one could have a go at home. Ann told us something about the floristry courses she had undertaken and encouraged members to go to the one day courses at Reaseheath which had started her off in this enjoyable pastime. The floral arrangements Ann made were later raffled."

"In keeping with the floral theme, the competition was "Flower of the Month", always a popular subject. Eva Sadler was the winner with Barbara Tomlinson second and Sarah Lunt third.

Earlier in the evening, President, Sarah Lunt read out the report of the NFWI AGM at the Albert Hall in June. Sheila Cain from Acton and Reaseheath had attended as delegate for a group of WI's including Burleydam."

"Arrangements are in hand for a joint coffee morning with the newly formed Richmond Village WI. This will be held at Richmond Village, Nantwich on Tuesday 7th August from 10 am to 12 noon. There will a cake stall and a plant stall. All are welcome."
