So, unlike most government IT projects, we beat our deadline to get the new version of the website up and live for this morning.

This was a major achievement for the webteam, with the full backing and much effort from the guys at Thenmedia.

Which is not to say that it is all perfect – far from it.

But users with small devices (this is not a personal comment) should see a significant improvement in the presentation and accessibility of the website screens.

Buy/sell appears to be working in its new form – all the stuff about login and passwords has disappeared. What you do now is to provide a password when you submit the item onto buy/sell and try to remember it for when you take the item off again, hopefully after selling it or finding it. These passwords are purely for this one purpose and they can be the same on each item you put in, or you can use a different one each time. Their purpose is purely to protect against other people accidentally or maliciously removing the item. The passwords are not kept afterwards and have no other purpose.

Chatbox now asks you for your real name and a valid e-mail address. This is only so that we can contact you if necessary – this is very unlikely. Chatbox entries will be moderated as before, according to our policies and guidelines.

You will hopefully find the directory tree easier to negotiate and more informative – but even then it is only as good as the information in it – please, please, please can village businesses, services and clubs and societies check the information we hold for them, and let us know if it is wrong or incomplete. Where a business or organisation has a website, we have tried to make the path to this clear and easy, on the grounds that the information on that should be up to date, or at least it won't be our fault if it isn't.

All our associated websites, ADCA, Audlem Parish Council, ADCA, History Archive etc etc are not affected by the changes at this stage. You can enter them via the links in the appropriate directory item, or through the links page on the home menu.

So please enjoy the new website, and don't hesitate to let us know how much of a backward step it is compared to the old system.
