A new Vote Poll is now underway on Audlem Online. As it's the story dominating the local newspapers, and as there are strong arguments for and against, the question is 'Do you agree with electronic measuring devices being placed in your recycling wheelie bins?'

Crewe & Nantwich Borough Council are one of a handful of local authorities that are using the so-called bugs. They allow the weight of material in the grey and green recycling bins to be weighed as they are collected and tipped into the truck. This, the Council says, and there is now much to read on the issue on the Council's website, will make recycling promotional campaigns more effective.

On the other hand, many believe the 'bugs' were placed in their bins without being told about it. It smacks of 'Big Brother' (the George Orwell one, not Channel 4's!) and is an invasion of privacy. There have also been concerns about charging residents, based on the data collected by the measuring devices, although the Council deny this is on the agenda. The issue has been covered in three news stories on Audlem Online and it is the front page lead story in the Chronicle and Nantwich Guardian and made the national news.

To vote, select Yes/No/Unsure and click on Vote Now. You can only vote once. You can check on how the voting is going by clicking on 'View Results' beneath the 'Vote Now' box. This also allows you to view all the previous polls on Audlem Online.

Last month's poll on the bid to de-prime the A525 produced a more than two thirds majority in favour of the bid but with a sizeable minority against. A detailed submission to the Ministry of Transport is being finalised at present. The draft submission can be found in 'Articles' on the Home Page.
