SPOT THE CRIMINAL  & KEEP YOUR CASH!

The long arm of the law enforcement reaches out to Audlem Probus Club members this week – thankfully in a good way!

The Club’s retired business and professional men and women are to get an authoritative insight into the world of online crime.

Cyber-crime, as it’s known, is a major threat globally. In the past 12 months, Britain alone experienced cyber security breaches or attacks identified by in the order of just over four in ten businesses and three in ten charities. According to a June 2025 survey commissioned by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), and the Home Office, that equates to 612,000 businesses and 61,000 charities.

But how can individuals guard against online scams and fraud?
This Thursday (May 28th), Detective Constable Andy Kevan, of the Cheshire Police Cyber Crime Unit, will shed light on ways to keep ourselves safer from today’s technology travesties.

He says: “Online frauds & scams are the number one crime type in the UK. You are more likely to be a victim of crime on your smartphone than anything else.
“This talk looks at your digital footprint, who has access to it, and how fraudsters use this information to commit online crimes. We are most vulnerable online when we  are shopping, opening emails, opening text, using social media, using online dating sites and from remote access.
“This no-nonsense talk gives you practical advice on how to secure your online world and how AI is now being used to scam you.”
Guests and visitors are welcome to join us for Andy’s talk:

“STOP frauds and Scams – Cyber Protect Advice” this Thursday (May 28th) from 10am,
Audlem Public Hall.
