To the eagled eyed amongst the readers, you will have noticed that from this Saturday, the Audlem church is adorned with a brand new Union Jack flag. I have just taken it out of its packaging and hoisted it up high and proud on the Audlem church tower.
The flag hanging beforehand had started to shred and needed taking down for repairs. Hopefully, and with the care and support of Olive from church, it's salvageable. The one before it had become irreparable and needed replacing with a new flag. It cost £170 to replace, thanks to donations from a number of parishioners.
Within a few weeks, the new flag could very easily start shredding and may need replacing again, and unless the previous one is reparable, we may not have another flag to replace it with.
Also, replacing it as soon as it starts shredding will make a difference between saving it and throwing it in the bin. Hence, because in these Covid days I may not have sight of the flag for weeks, within which time it may start to shred, any comments on AudlemOnline about the flag starting to shred, would be appreciated.
Also, we hoist three versions of flags on Audlem St James; Union Jack, St George's and the Diocesan flag, and thus contributions from villagers to allow us to purchase only a few extra flags, would be appreciated. In this case, you can make a donation via Frank, Pete or Alan in church.
