Canal Book Shop, based at Audlem Mill, has just published its second book.

"Historic Working Narrow Boats Today" contains over 590 colour photographs of 465 working boats as they are today. The book features more than half of the 830 boats known still to exist, and they range in age from about 50 to 175 years.

There are brief historical notes on every boat. Almost all the superb photographs were taken by David Williams, one of the volunteers at Audlem Locks for about three years. He took the photos all over the country over the last few years.

The text is by Peter Silvester of Audlem Mill, who has been canal boating for nearly fifty years, starting in the mid 1960s when commercial carrying by narrow boat was still fairly common.

The book is A4 portrait size, and contains 110 pages, including a comprehensive index of boat names.

Canal Book Shop's first book "A Sketch of Time" is still available at Audlem Mill. It features coloured pen and ink sketches by Audlem artist Sheila M Webster of all the historic narrow boats that attended the gathering of boats at the Audlem Festival of Transport last July.
