The large number of speculative planning applications received locally and nationally has raised great public concern about unwanted development ruining our towns and villages. Audlem will be required to provide approximately 90/100 additional homes over the next 20 years and where these should be located is clearly a matter of high public interest.

Audlem Parish Council has called a meeting on Thursday 10 July at 7pm in the Public Hall to explain Neighbourhood Planning, a legally binding community-led process involving consultation with residents of all ages and areas of the village.

The aim of a Neighbourhood Plan is to achieve a consensus on potential sites for future development, design, employment and infrastructure requirements to support future growth. The process can take up to two years and involves a significant amount of volunteer time to pull together the various strands of the Plan and write policies to support it.

Recently, Cheshire East Council has come up with a proposal for Resident First Neighbourhood Planning which fast tracks the process and particularly focuses on identifying sites and design for future development. It will also consider use of the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) to fund infrastructure requirements identified as a result of any proposed development. This fast-track is at the early stages of drafting and more will be revealed at the meeting on 10th July to which everyone is invited.
