Sharing Our School and Learning!
Our Green Team led Monday's whole school assembly this week sharing their ideas about National Gardens Week which takes place over half term and updating school about their work with Mrs Hayward towards Eco School Bronze Award and their work with our link school in Stalybridge. Mrs Hayward, Oscar, Harry, Lucy, Amelie and Jordan are currently inviting children from across school to apply to be in the Green Team – I am sure they have inspired new recruits already!
Sapphire and Pearl classes began their week by visiting St James' Church were they learnt all about the church as a centre for the Christian community. They learned about worship through song, prayer and meeting as a congregation to show that Christians belong to the Christian faith. The children enjoyed sketching the different parts of the church and learning about artefacts found in the church. Thank you to Reverend Helen for acting as their guide on this journey of discovery.
Our Harvest Service on Tuesday was a wonderful celebration of all of the children and staff's hard work and it was lovely to share it with so many relatives. Thank you once again for the kind donations sent into school to support Nantwich Foodbank.
Many of our Reception parents joined us for lunch on Tuesday. It was lovely to see how confident the children were showing their parents what we do at lunchtime and I know many parents commented on the lovely food they ate.Thank you to Mrs Hayward, Mrs Jones and the Mid Day Assistants for looking after everyone so well.
We had a very successful Open Morning on Wednesday which was a great opportunity to share all of the wonderful things that happen in our school with new visitors. A special mention must go to our Year 6 guides who showed all of our visitors around school and answered any questions they had. They all did a wonderful job.
This week's Praise Book children are:

Sporting News
Our football team played a difficult match last Friday away against Stapeley Broad Lane and despite losing 4-1, I know Mr Perry was very proud of the effort and determination the team showed.
This evening they have their second game away at Shavington Primary School and I know Mr Perry is hoping they all play with the same commitment and dedication as they did last week. Good luck everyone!

You will have received your child's Christmas card designs this week. Please ensure any orders for cards are returned to school by Monday 19th October so they can be ordered in time for Christmas.
A reminder that the Spooky Disco is drawing closer. Booking places is advisable as places are limited. Please contact Lorna Saunders (07801238819) or Deborah Varley (07940914639) to book a place.
ABC Childcare
ABC would like to welcome the new children who have started breakfast club and after school club in the last few weeks. A reminder that ABC are now taking bookings for their holiday club, which is Halloween themed. There will be lots of baking, Halloween crafts, fancy dress and to end the holiday club ABC will be having a Halloween fancy dress party! The new after school activities provided by ABC after half term will include: Arts and Crafts, Drama (based on Christmas Theme), Dance, Baking and Lego Club. More details to follow shortly.
Waterbottles
Drinking water throughout the day helps to hydrate us and keep our brains working. We encourage all children to drink fresh water during the day to help with this. We have 2 water points for water bottles to be regularly refilled.
Please help us with this by ensuring your child has a named water bottle with them each day.
Reading Week and Book Fair
As part of our Reading Week in school next week, we are holding a Scholastic Book Fair in school. The Fair begins after school this evening from 3.30pm – 4pm. We will run the fair after school in the school hall on Monday and Tuesday next week and the last chance to visit the fair will be on Wednesday 14th October when the fair will be open from 8.15am – 8.45am. School receives a percentage of the profits from the Fair and this will be used to buy more reading materials for our school library and classrooms. Thank you for your continued support.
Data Collection Sheets
We still have a number of these sheets which have not been returned for children in school. It is important that we have up-to-date information for all of the children to ensure that we contact the correct people in emergencies. We therefore request that all outstanding forms are completed and returned to school before the half term break. Please contact Miss Cooper in our school office if you require a replacement form.
Parent/Teacher Meetings
Our first Parent evenings of this school year take place next week. Please contact your child's class teacher if you ave not made an appointment yet. Representatives from our Governing Body will be available during these evenings for parents to speak to and share thoughts and views about school issues with. I hope many of you are able to take this opportunity to meet with them.
Rugby World Cup Themed Lunch
Despite England's early exit from the World Cup, we will be celebrating England hosting this special event with a themed lunch designed by Mrs Hayward, our School Cook. This special lunch will take place on Thursday 22nd October.
Menus for this Rugby Feast have been sent out to all families this week – it certainly looks like an exciting choice!
Parking – Safety Message
Earlier this week our waste bin collection could not take place due to a car obstructing access to school along Heathfield Road. This was during the school day and may well have been someone visiting school who parked on the road, making the space too narrow for a large bin lorry to pass. Whilst this was inconvenient for school, the more concerning issue was that it highlights, quite clearly, the difficulties emergency vehicles would have attending school r any residents on Heathfield Road when cars are parked irresponsibly.
I have highlighted this matter to the Police who have advised that any car blocking access can be removed for obstruction and have also advised that they will intend to issue tickets to drivers as part of their patrols in this area.
Fair School Funding Campaign
I have recently been contacted by Antoinette Sandbach, MP for Eddisbury, regarding the Fair School Funding Campaign due to be presented to Parliament later this year. The campaign seeks to make the way schools across the country are funded fairer as there are significant variations across the country.
On average the ten best funded areas receive £6,300 per pupil compared to £4,200 per pupil in the ten most poorly funded areas. In Cheshire East, schools receive £4,210 per pupil.
Petitions for Fair School Funding are being coordinated across England, the more people who sign these petitions; the stronger the case will be when it is presented in the House of Commons. A copy of this petition is available in the school office and will be returned to the House of Commons at the end of this half term. I would urge as many constituents of Eddisbury sign this petition to support this drive for a fairer way to fund schools. Thank you.
Finally
Our next Parent Forum meeting will take place on Wednesday 18th November from 9.15am – 10.15am. I will be meeting with the Chair and Secretary of the Forum soon after half term to finalise agenda items. Please let me know if you have any ideas for discussion at this meeting by emailing me directly or sending a message via the school office.
