Brine Leas School Music Department recently held a day introducing Year 7 students to the joys of singing and to a wide range of musical instruments.

During the course of the day, every student was given the opportunity to handle and produce sounds from the small cornet to the trombone in the brass section, flutes and clarinets in the woodwind group and even played a tune together with violins, cellos and a double bass.

Playing an instrument not only develops individual skills, but can also give considerable enjoyment and enhance friendships when playing in groups. At the school, tuition is available in all instruments.

At the end of an exhausting day, Richard Cowen, Brass tutor at Brine Leas explained: "It has been a fun day and a great opportunity to inspire students to play an instrument for themselves."
