Local MP Stephen O'Brien, the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for International Development, will be meeting with representatives of British Waterways today, Friday 10th December, at Audlem for a local visit and tour of the canals which run through his constituency.

Stephen O'Brien will meet with Julie Sharman, BW's Head of Regeneration and Wendy Capelle, Waterway Manager to discuss BW's work and to see first hand the transformation of the local waterways over the last 20 years.

From being seen as a lost cause, the network is now a focus for leisure, jobs and regeneration and is used by more people, for a wider variety of purposes, than at any other time in its 200-year history.

The MP has been kept aware of the various canal related projects outlined in the 2010 Audlem Parish Plan – click on the link below the photograph for a copy of the Plan. Printed copies are about to be distributed to all Audlem households.

On Monday, a joint bid by British Waterways and the Audlem Parish Plan team for major funding for local canal projects is being considered by the Northern Marches Leader finance committee. Bids have also been made to Cheshire East while Audlem Parish Council, British Waterways and local businesses are also providing financial and other support.
