An Audlem nursing home want to extend the time limit on its planning permission to extend care home facilities.

In 2010 Keenrick Nursing Homes Ltd won a three-year extension on planning approval first granted in 2005 to build 13 new units on the grassed garden area of the current home in Vicarage Lane and to convert the exhibiting building to create another nine units.

But time has run out on the 2010 extension and owners want to renew the permission again until 2016.

The 2005 planning consent was given for a major extension to create new accommodation for 17 residents with full care nursing to be housed in the original nursing home, three residents in Breeze House and 28 residents in new or converted apartments.

This included nine units created in existing single storey accommodation and 13 in the new apartments. The extended nursing home would house a maximum of 48 residents with a maximum of 10 staff present at any one time.

The application was also considered to be for a change of use from a C2 nursing home to fully nursed care and independent living units and to allow people to live independently to receive some degree of care and nursing when required.

A total of 20 car parking spaces was to serve the development as a whole, an increase of eight new spaces on the existing provision.

Audlem Nursing Home is based around the original Audlem Grammar School which had many extensions at different times in its history but is still a Grade II* listed building.

The original school was built in 1655 with the Headmaster's House added in 1770. Later nineteenth and twentieth century additions still survive. The modern extension to the
main building is single storey and Breeze House built in the 1990's is next to the site entrance.

The site is also within the Audlem Conservation Area and within the settlement boundary for Audlem.
