Following yesterday's Audlem Online report on "Marina debate hits the press", Janet Maughan, who with husband Angus, has submitted the planning application to build the 200-boat marina to the north of Audlem, writes: "One issue I would

like to clarify, however, is that no visitor moorings will be removed from

Audlem.

"I have a written statement from British Waterways assuring us of

this and I feel it is a very important point to make as I understand it has

been misunderstood by a few local residents (British Waterway's policy is to remove long term on-line moorings as and when they become vacant, in

accordance with their policy, at a ratio of 1 mooring to every 10 marina

moorings provided within a 30 mile radius of the marina. This policy was

derived as a result of boater's surveys. The link to the policy can be

found at http://www.britishwaterways.co.uk/media/documents/Online-Offline_long_term_moorings_policy.pdf

"In addition, our intention has always been to provide

a cafe and small shop for boaters use only, preferably to be let to a local

business if they consider there is sufficient demand, although the toilet

facilities will be available to walkers if thay need to use them. We have

been talking to a number of businesses in Audlem to find out how they could

improve their trade through the marina and see this as an important aspect

of the development.

"The proposal has been given support by the Shropshire

Union Canal Society, the Inland Waterways Association and British Waterways.

If anyone would like to see the plans or supporting statement they can be
