A week ago, we ran a couple of stories about the Oil Baron bulk oil buying group that a growing number of Audlem residents are now taking advantage of. It's run by Kevin Dawson who adds to his description of the service in the earlier stories: "Quite frankly I do not know why hundreds are not joining as the economies of scale are just amazing.

"The last bulk order I placed was at 38.75p per litre and a new member rang to say he had just terminated his Direct Debit with Shell as they were about to charge him 55p per litre for 500 litres. He was reluctant to do it previously as they always turned up and never let him run out but a saving of £81.00 changed his mind especially as he gets an automatic reminder from me every month to check his tank for a top up.

"So far we have placed orders for approx 300,000 litres at a revenue to the supplying companies of some £120,000 and a calculated saving to our members of approx £11,000.

"When I email members it is by Bcc copy so nobody gets other people's email addresses. I run it as confidentially as I possibly can and so far I have had one person resign because he refused to accept delivery from a particular supplier who had upset him in the past – the price of pride!

"It is possible for people to join who are not on email if a friendly neighbour member who is on line will act as a conduit for them. I have such a relationship working in Bunbury where again a piece in the Bunbury news has brought in approximately 12 members.

"I have to declare that I have no connection with any fuel oil supplier and that my one aim in this project is to be able to save us all some money at this time of uncertainty in fuel oil pricing. You are welcome to contact me should you require any further information."
