Visitors to the Audlem Transport Festival in June may well remember Carl Brooks and Matt Laisby who were about to set off on the Mongol Rally.

The Mongol Rally is the ultimate challenge to drive the 10,000 miles from the UK to Mongolia in a small and completely unsuitable vehicle through 12 countries across mountain ranges, deserts, rivers, and extremely poor roads.

Teams are completely unsupported with no set route and all navigational aids are deemed against the spirit of the challenge.

The crazy adventure was all in a good cause and Carl and Matt raised money in Audlem for Cancer Research and were also fundraising at many other south Cheshire venues and events before they set out.

Three years ago, at the age of 22, Carl was diagnosed and treated for Thyroid Cancer. After two operations, radioactive iodine treatment, and regular check ups, he is still here today and determined to help make a difference and give something back.

The great news is that they have made it through those 10,000 miles across Europe and Asia to Ulan Bator and they have the photo to prove it.
