Message from the Epps

Seven weeks ago Bob Cartwright penned a "Farewell to the Epps" on AOL...it was a really nice article and much appreciated by us.

After a long wait, numerous phone calls to our telephone provider (resulting in now being on first name terms with half of the inhabitants of the Indian sub-continent) we have finally been reconnected to the outside world with wifi. So, we thought it only polite to say thank you and to respond to Bob's kind wishes.

We spent almost 30 years in Audlem; all of them happy, and left with many great memories of the village and its people. Our house was built on the site of Bonell's Yard and perhaps many will be surprised to know that it is that long since the Agricultural Works disappeared.

During our time there, I commuted daily to Michelin in Stoke and Pauline spent a lot of years in Nantwich at WH Smith. Our two children progressed from teenagers to adults. The eldest Leanne is married with two sons in Devon....hence our move down here to Exeter.... and our son Chris, also married, who is an A380 pilot for Emirates in Dubai.

So apart from all of the family history generated by our time in Audlem there are a number of things that we will miss.
These include:

• All of the good friends that we made....many of whom came to see us before we left
• The shops where buying a newspaper or some meat or a stamp or whatever inevitably became a social event
• The Festival of Transport driving past our door
• The Lord Combermere and in particular Timothy Taylor's Landlord bitter
• Billy Gibbons and Mr Beaman
• Our Postlady Debbie
• Chatbox and Buy Sell on AOL and the website itself which will continue to be our source of news
• The Christmas Tree in the Square
• The beautiful church
• The Medical Centre with its friendly staff
• The proximity of Nantwich....a lovely town
• The "doers" who work tirelessly and free of charge to make the village so vibrant
• Our walks along Monks Lane and the canal
• etc, etc.

I think the only thing that we won't miss are the drivers who can't tell the difference between 30 mph and 50 mph as they come into the village but I'm sure that given time that will be sorted.

So thank you Audlem and its people for wonderful memories and may we wish you all the very, very best for the future. Also we would like to wish Greg and Heather who bought our house a life there as happy as ours was.
