The Burial committee have approved the memorial design – see previous stories on AudlemOnline for the background – and I have commissioned Rogers of Nantwich to carry out the works.

The Granite is being cut from quarries in the Andra Pradesh in east India in a place named Khammam, not far from Hyderabad, the capital of the state. This is, I am informed, one of the very best quarries for quality granite.

The stone will be transhipped overland to the port of Chennai (was called Madras before Independence) in the State of Tamil Nadu. The port is on the Bay of Bengal.

The sea voyage and cutting of the stone will take some 6/8 weeks.

I will hopefully give more news and perhaps a photo record as the journey evolves.
