On as warm a 'Carols in the Square' December night as anyone can remember, there was a huge turnout for the community singing of popular carols last night.

Audlem Online's meteorology department calculated that the temperature was an amazing 21°C warmer than last year's Carols evening.

The mayor of Cheshire East, Councillor Roger West, was warmly welcomed while Julie Hesketh, chair of ADAS, the Audlem District Amenities Society presented a splendid bouquet of flowers to the leader of the Crewe Brass Band who have played at this event for twenty five years.

Santa mingled with the crowds to the evident excitement of all ages, distributing sweets and possibly receiving last minute requests for presents.

Soup was distributed courtesy of the Lord Combermere, appropriately as the verse "We won't leave until we've had some" was being sung from 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas.'

Bill Consterdine on the mike entertained between carols and kept the pace going perfectly while reminding everyone of the success the village has enjoyed this year. Our thanks from the Audlem Online webteam for his kind words about the website.

The singing was as enthusiastic as ever and the many hundreds of singers left happily to enjoy well-earned refreshment knowing that Christmas really was nearly here.

Our thanks to Phil Baker for the fabulous photographs that capture this brilliant evening perfectly. You can, of course, click on the photos to enlarge them. They are now in the Events Gallery.
