There could be plenty of lycra on view in Audlem today as the mass cycle ride, called the Cheshire Cat, is due through the village today. Indeed, The Bridge Inn is one of the three stages on the ride run by 'kilotogo', organisers of long-distance mass cycle rides, or sportives.

The ride takes in much of Cheshire and involves cycling over Mow Cop in the east and as far as Beeston in the west. How many participants will pass through Audlem is unknown as this is the first sportive of the year and there is an easier mid-Cheshire alternative than the full circuit which includes Audlem.

Signs have gone up (and will be removed on Monday) as the two route options are fully way-marked. There's also transponder timing, large HQ facilities, the three checkpoint and feed-stations and technical support on the road – all hallmarks of kilotogo sportives. Details can be found at http://www.kilotogo.com/cheshirecat.htm

Let's all hope it's a great day for the participants, many of whom could well return to Audlem in the future and join the many thousands who make the village a cycling destination.
