Retirees in Audlem, joined staff and homeowners for a summer garden party at McCarthy and Stone's new Retirement Living development, Lyme Wood Grange, located on McKelvey Way.

As part of the celebrations, a tree was planted in the development's landscaped gardens to pay tribute to the late Derek McKelvey -- an influential community member -- for his lifetime contribution to the village of Audlem. Derek was a well-known figure in the community, having been the Chair of several village organisations. Additionally, he owned, and successfully ran for over 50 years, Williams of Audlem -- the village's oldest established shop, on Shropshire Street, with his wife Megan.

Guests at the summer garden party had the opportunity to take a tour of the spacious, luxury apartments, as well as a chance to view the contemporary homeowners' lounge and guest suite -- all whilst enjoying a glass of fizz and light refreshments.

Fiona Brooks, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy and Stone North West, said: "Derek McKelvey was a popular influence in Audlem and with the development located on McKelvey Way, we wanted to do our part in paying respect to him and keeping his legacy alive. Having been involved in various community projects and associations throughout his life, it was clear that Derek had a real passion for improving the local area, something we strive to do. We hope we can follow his lead and positively impact the community.

"We would like to say a huge thank you to Derek's family and all our guests who joined us for the garden party. We would encourage anyone over the age of 60 who is considering downsizing to take a look at the development themselves, they won't be disappointed!"
