Harvest Celebrations!

School was full of Harvest songs, poems and prayers last week as the children and staff prepared for our special service at St James' Church on Thursday. It has been wonderful to hear the energy and enthusiasm in each class as everyone has been sharing ideas about this special time of year.

The service was a wonderful celebration of all of their hard work and it was lovely to share it with so many relatives.

As you will know from my letter earlier this week, our School Council have chosen Save the Family as the charity to help as part of our Harvest work this year. I have been tremendously impressed with the thought and care members of the School Council have given to this decision and I know the families who will benefit from the donations of tins, rice, pasta, toiletries and household products sent into school will be very grateful for this.

A representative from Save the Family was joining us for assembly on Monday to talk to the children about the help all of our donations will give to families locally. Please send any remaining donations into school by Monday morning. Many thanks.

Classes

Pearl and Sapphire classes have continued to learn about farms and farming linked to Harvest time and their work has been brought to life this week through the fabulous artefacts families have sent in to share.

Their classrooms have been full of a variety of items which they have studied and investigated to work out what they were used for in the past. Many thanks to all of the families who have sent these items into school.

Diamond class have also been busy bringing their topic on Prehistoric Britain to life as they have used their maths skills to create Mammoth Maths both in class and on our field! An amazing array of various mammoths appeared on our school field on Wednesday after they had worked together to problem solve how they could enlarge and measure out their mammoths – they make for an eye catching display!

We welcomed parents and carers of Ruby Class children into school on Friday morning for our first Maths Coffee Morning of this year. They shared a maths lesson with their children and enjoyed outdoor learning too! Thanks to all of the relatives who came along to this session.

Book Fair

Our Book Fair has been tremendously supported in school, many thanks to all of the families who have visited the Fair over the last week. School receives a percentage of the profits from the Fair and this will be used to buy more reading materials for our school library and classrooms.

Sports

Well done to all of the Key Stage 2 children who represented our school at Quad Kids athletics on Wednesday. The children took part in a range of running, throwing and jumping events and they were all wonderful representatives of school.

Thanks to Mr Griffiths and Mrs Heathcock for organising this and to the parents and carers who supported the children.

FASA

FASA held a very successful Quiz Night at the Lord Combermere on Tuesday evening, there was great support from parents and £461 was raised for school funds! FASA would like to thank Mike Haines, for hosting the quiz and the auction of promises, Jo and Alan at the Lord Combermere for their hospitality and all of their donators and supporters, who all made the evening a great success.

The Spooky Disco is FASA's next event. This will take place on Sunday 2nd November at the Scout and Guide Hall in Audlem. Look out for more details coming soon!

Uniform Update

Following discussions at Parent Forum and a recent Governing Body Sub Committee meeting, we have decided to slightly alter our uniform policy to include both blue and white polo shirts with immediate effect. This was a popular request from parents when we surveyed last year and I trust you find this amendment helpful.

Spanish Themed Lunch

Mrs Hayward, our School Cook, has been busy planning for our first themed lunch of the year which takes place on 21st October. Menus for this Spanish themed lunch have been sent out to all families – it certainly looks like an exciting choice!

Brownies

1st Audlem Brownies currently have spaces for new brownies to join their pack. This group meets on Tuesdays from 3.30pm – 5.15pm at the Scout and Guide Hall. If you would like to enroll your daughter to the Brownies please do this online via the Girl Guiding Website or contact Mrs Goodwin (Mum of Maisy and Annie – Year 4 and 6) to find out more.

Brine Leas Open Day and Evening & Activity Day

All Year 5 and 6 children have received a flier about Brine Leas Activity day this week. The day takes place this Saturday and includes up to 15 different activities for children to take part in as well as a chance to meet some of the staff at the school.

Brine Leas are also holding an open day and evening for prospective parents and children. This event will be held next Wednesday.

For children moving to High School in September 2015, there is also a New Families Information Evening on Monday 13th October. For further information about any of these events, please contact Brine Leas direct on 01270 625663.

Guitar – New Beginners Group

Mrs Shakleton is starting a beginners group for new guitar players from Years 3-6. If you would like your child to join this group, please email Mrs Shackleton for more information at all4musicality@yahoo.co.uk

Mend Our Mum Sponsored Walk

As I mentioned in our letter from School Council last week, one of the local charities we are supporting this half term is 'Mend our Mum' to help the ongoing fund raising work in Audlem for this charity.

There was a village fancy dress sponsored walk to raise money for this very worthwhile cause at the weekend. Adults paid £5 to participate whilst children are free and the route was suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs alike. The walk began from The Lord Combermere and returned there for well deserved chips!

Update – Open Morning in School

Our Open Morning on Wednesday is for prospective parents who do not already have a child attending our school. As in previous years, we are holding a series of sessions for parents with children already in our school throughout the year. These sessions are for current parents to come in and get a feel for learning in our school.

Thank you

Many thanks to the Wilding family who have donated a large collection of games and DVDs for school to use during Golden Time. This is a wonderful gift to school and is very much appreciated by all of the staff and children.

Finally

It is important that our newsletter and all other forms of communication we send out to parents and carers, give you a clear and detailed picture of our work in school, so that you are kept up to date with events in school and our community. If you have any ideas, comments or suggestions about the content of newsletters please get in touch with me.
Many thanks.
