Friday's story on Audlem Online announcing that Lord Lucan was in Audlem and seen in the Lord Combermere caused quite a stir.

Your editor was a wee taken aback but, anticipating a world scoop, went off to investigate – any excuse, and this was a good one!

Lord Lucan is, of course, a guest ale at the Lord C from the Wincle Beer Company and, after sampling several glasses yesterday, can be highly recommended. Yet another great beer to come from Wincle.

Some may not know that the Wincle Brew Co is a beautifully located brewery on the Cheshire and Staffordshire border in the Peak District. And it has strong Audlem connections.

The owner and brewer is Giles Meadows, brought up right in the middle of Audlem, almost directly over the road from the Lord Combermere.

Giles says: "Wincle Beer Co. was set up in 2008 from a redundant milking parlour, on a working farm set within the Peak District National Park.

"Our whole ethos has always been about brewing the kind of beer that we love to drink ourselves.

"We enjoyed immediate success and encouragement at Tamworth beer festival where we won a silver medal.

"Our original plan was to take life easy, do the odd brew and spend the rest of the time whittling. However, people loved our beer and we couldn't brew it fast enough."

The Lord Lucan is selling out fast at the Lord C but pop in today and you might just be lucky to get a sighting. You won't be disappointed – well, you will be if the good Lord has disappeared yet again!
