Chris Roche is leading the Long ARS (Audlem Ramblers Society) walk in the Peak District on 14th March. Meet on Audlem Car Park for an 8.30am departure.
Chris describes the walk as follows:-
A varied ridge walk from the wild open moorland of Shining Tor to the edge of Wingather Rocks returning along the Goyt Valley.
Most of the walk is on on tracks and slab paths, very little wet ground and in reasonable weather can be walked in walking shoes.
Start: from The Street car park at the Northwest Corner of Erwood Reservoir OS reference SK 0135 7564 (For those with Garmin Nav GPS N 53deg 16.685mins W 01deg 58.882mins)
There is about 1 mile climb early in the walk of 300 meters height gain up to Shining Tor after which the walk is fairly gentle with wide open views of moorland and a long descent into the valley and back to the cars.
To do the recce I went through Congleton, Macclesfield total distance of 40 miles which took about 90 minutes.
The walk is OK for dogs, there were no sheep on the moors but we go through a couple of farms on the way down where dogs will have to be on leads.
