Chris Knibbs is leading the July Long ARS walk on July 8th.

This will be a "5-booter" ascent of Snowdon. Chris writes – the walk comprises 12.9 miles of steep ascent and descent with weather dependent panoramic views. Walkers need to be sure footed as Snowdon has several steep gulleys and rocky edges.

The walk starts along the Watkin Path to the first waterfall, then follows an old mining track to the remains of a small mining settlement. Then the real ascent begins, north to Lliwedd Bach and Y Lliwedd 800m peaks. At Bwlch Ciliau our path rejoins the Watkin path steeply to the summit. After a well earned rest, we descend initially by the Rhyd Ddu path, then left at Pen ar Lon and after regaining our energy we turn between the two lakes to ascend the 750m Yr Aran peak, returning steeply next to the wall back through the gap at Bwlch Cwm Llan and back to the Watkin Path and the car park.

The group will meet at 8am on Audlem Car Park, to meet up with Chris at 10am at the Watkin Path Car park A498 (post code LL55 4NL Map ref SH628 507). If this is full, then there is another Car Park 1.4miles south on the A498.

If any ARS non-members wish to come on this walk, they are strongly advised to contact Chris beforehand on 07980 979 063.

NB All walkers must have suitable footwear and be prepared for adverse weather, carry food and water to last for the entire walk and be suitably fit for the various lengths of walk.

Each walk is led by a nominated leader who will carry some first-aid equipment. The leader has the right to refuse to include in a group anyone who is felt not be adequately equipped.
