The August Long ARS is a classic walk along Gritstone Edge in the Peak District of about 10 miles
Andy Davidson is leading this walk.
Starting from Grindleford railway station (postcode is S32 2JA I believe) we ascend to White Edge, which we then follow roughly southwards. We then cut across westwards to a monument to Wellington, which is a good place to have lunch with lovely views down the Derwent Valley and Chatsworth House. We then return northwards along Baslow, Curbar and Froggatt Edges before descending down to Grindleford.
Total ascent is just under 400 metres, although most of that is undertaken in the initial climb. When recce'd conditions were generally good underfoot although some of the paths were overgrown.
With regard to dogs, these can come but close control is required. As well as the usual proviso about sheep and cattle we are on open access land where extra rules apply. In addition we saw seven Roe Deer on the recce, one of which was quite close to us.
We meet on Audlem Car Park at 8.30am on Saturday August 12th.
NB All walkers must have suitable footwear and be prepared for adverse weather, carry food and water to last for the entire walk and be suitably fit for the various lengths of walk.
Each walk is led by a nominated leader who will carry some first-aid equipment. The leader has the right to refuse to include in a group anyone who is felt not be adequately equipped.
