Saturday 14th April

Note early meet on Audlem Car Park at 8.00am

Connor McIllwrath is leading the next Long ARS walk on Saturday 14 April.

The walk is a round of the Eastern Carneddau from Aber Falls, about 11.5 miles with 1000m ascent.

Starting point is Aber Falls car park near to Abergwyngregyn, off J13 of the A55. There is a £2 charge – bring correct change. Suggest arriving by 9.45am with aim to set off at 10am.

Connor will be coming from Chester to meet the group at Aber Falls car park – Peter Kay has volunteered to meet walkers in Audlem Car Park for an 8am departure.

Starting from the car park we head along the footpath towards the falls for a leisurely warm up. We'll stop at the main viewing area to take in the impressive falls. Continuing on the North Wales Path as far as Afon Gam where we turn off the path and follow the river up the valley towards the peak of Gyrn. At the top of the valley we head south east and continue climbing past Drosgl and Bera Bach. On a clear day there are fine views towards the Yr Elen and Carnedd Llewelyn. The ridge summits at Carnedd Gwenllian where we'll bear north east along the ridge to Foel Fras which is the highest point of the day at 942m. From here it's mainly downhill taking in Drum and then there's an option to follow the ridgeline all the way down to the North Wales Path or the easier option is to follow the vehicle track. Either way we'll all meet up at the car park below Foel Dduarth and then walk along the road back to the main car park.

Please note this is a big day in the mountains with 1000m of ascent and likely to take 6hrs. If the weather forecast is looking poor then there is a Plan B option from Conwy.

NB All walkers must have suitable footwear and be prepared for adverse weather, carry food and water to last for the entire walk and be suitably fit for the various lengths of walk.

Each walk is led by a nominated leader who will carry some first-aid equipment. The leader has the right to refuse to include in a group anyone who is felt not be adequately equipped.

Non-members of ARS are welcome to come on a walk but are expected to join ARS and pay the membership fee after a trial walk or two.
