Local 4x4 now in Africa

When Audlem resident Jim Roberts, who runs local company Building Maintenance, sold his old Mitsubishi 4x4, little did he realise where it would end up.

The buyer had relatives in Kenya and the 4x4 was, Jim has since learnt, soon off to Africa. He's been told the Mitsubishi is now used as the village workhorse and is involved in lots of local projects.

The Mitsubishi 4x4s have a deserved reputation as tough, both on- and off-road. Good job too, as our regularly used pothole photo seen here was also taken in Kenya.

Regular readers may remember that the photo of the 'unknown fisherman' was simply plucked from Google Images to show a massive pothole with, we hope, a little humour. For some reason, The Audlem Online webteam seemed to think it had been taken in Paraguay, South America.

Imagine our surprise when, after its first appearance on the website, Audlem residents, John and Pam Vickers, asked how on earth we had found this photo of their nephew, Jamie.

Jamie, we are told, was touring Kenya some years ago, saw this massive pothole, and thought it might be suitable both for fishing and a fabulous photo opportunity. It may also have triggered fond memories of local roads on visits to his Aunt and Uncle in rural Cheshire!

After one amazing coincidence like that, we now ask ourselves, what are the odds against Jim Robert's old Mitsubishi finding its way to that massive Kenyan pothole with Audlem connections? As they say, it's a small world!
