Load of balls wanted

The more observant Audlem residents will have noted that the front walls of the area in front of the Public Hall have been rebuilt (with the kind assistance of a grant from WREN). We still await the replacement of the steps, which will complete this project and should greatly improve the appearance of the frontage of the Hall.

What we would like to do is to be able to relace the stone "balls" which used to adorn each pillar, of which there is now only one left. We would be very grateful if anyone who has any knowledge of where these balls have got to could contact the Public Hall Committee, with a view to getting them put back to where they should be.

It would also be satisfying to complete the restoration of the Public Hall frontage by re-installing the bell which used to be at the top of the right hand gable of the Hall facing Cheshire Street. We believe that this bell was used to summon the Fire Brigade to come and bring out the Fire Engine when it was kept in the Public Hall garage. If put back in its proper place, the bell could now be rung on significant village occasions, or possibly to fill in the quiet gaps when the church bells are silent. So again if anyone knows where this bell is now, could the current custodians perhaps be persuaded to return it to its original position?

If all these items are found and successfully returned, the Public Hall Committee could consider holding a special "bells and fireworks" display to celebrate the event.
