Each month the AudlemOnline webteam writes an article for the excellent Whitchurch and Market Drayton Gossip magazines.

This is what was said in the August issues which are being distributed to thousands of homes at present:

Two Audlem Festivals coming up

Audlem has continued to enjoy a busy summer with the Music & Arts Festival in late May; the Party on the Park with large numbers picnicking and enjoying great live music on 3rd July and at the end of July (23th and 31st July) the Gathering of Historic Working Boats and on Sunday 31st the Audlem Transport Festival.

Cyclists have also been visiting in large numbers with the July series of road races organised by Audlem Cycling Club. Audlem CycleSports shop in the very centre of the village is also proving a big attraction.

Next up in the summer programme of Audlem Events is the Audlem Beer Festival over the late-August Bank Holiday weekend followed just a week later by the Overwater RNLI Festival at the marina just a mile outside the village.

The Beer Festival is focussed on The Lord Combermere right in the centre of the village and is now an established annual attraction each August. Over forty beers, ciders and perry will be on offer, with most of the beers sourced locally from Cheshire, Shropshire or Staffordshire.

There's Live Music too from the Friday evening through to Bank Holiday Monday (26th – 29th August). Anyone who has attended an Audlem Music Festival will appreciate the quality of the music and the staging in the village – the same applies to the Beer Festival.

The RNLI Festival sees a range of entertainment on Saturday and Sunday 3rd and 4th September. That includes a full card of racing with a sponsored Donkey Derby, a dog show run by Steve Leonard, the TV Vet, and a dog agility demonstration, plus donkey rides after the Derby, together with the usual licensed bar, refreshments, stalls, associated entertainment, and many other attractions.

The Overwater Marina, which opened in 2010, is the current national Inland Marina of the Year – indeed it has won that accolade for the past two years – and is worth a visit in its own right. It can be reached by Coole Lane which runs from the west of Audlem to Nantwich or by walking the towpath northwards from Audlem or using Audlem Lass.

Audlem Lass runs every weekend and Bank Holiday from April to October and sails between Lock 15 at the bottom of the Audlem's locks and the marina with a service every half hour in each direction. As with the Festival, the boat service raises funds for the lifeboat charity with typically, £4,000 or so in annual profits being donated. It's just £1 a trip for adults and 50p for children. Dogs and pushchairs travel free.

Walking groups also enjoy the many footpaths around Audlem which often include a stretch of the canal towpath past the lock system which has been described as one of the best walks in Lowland England.
