The last of the series of History Shorts is published today, and appropriately, it's by Val Mackin, who contributed the first one, in March 2020. When the series was launched, it was intended to be a stopgap, to maintain contact with members until we could resume meetings. Few of us imagined then that in July 2021 we'd still be waiting for that moment.

We're grateful to the many contributors, members of the history society and others, who've provided the History Shorts. The range of subjects has been astonishing, often telling interesting personal stories or throwing light on little known and sometimes, quirky events.

We're also grateful to AudlemOnline for publishing the articles and taking the society's work to a wider audience.

We have fingers crossed that we'll be able to resume our monthly public meetings in the autumn and look forward to welcoming existing and new members. Meetings will, of course, be advertised on AudlemOnline, just as they were prior to the onset of the pandemic in March 2020.
