The Lass to the rescue

Following the failure of the scheme to use a company with no boats to carry goods from the Continent to Britain, the Government has decided on an alternative approach based on the Dunkirk spirit.

A fleet of small boats will crisscross the Channel, using the reconstructed Mulberry harbour put back together from the bits left around on the beaches at Arromanche at the French end and a host of small ports in the UK.

This fleet will be commanded by Admiral Chris Grayling and the organisation at the French end will be overseen by that ageless AudlemOnline favourite Avril Fouliere.

So the Audlem Lass is taking its part in this historic undertaking, bringing its load of cargo round Cornwall and up the Irish Sea to enter the Mersey and thence the Shropshire Union Canal to bring vital imports directly to Audlem. Here the Wheelybus will be used to distribute the goodies .

Clearly there is a limit to the cargo that the Lass can carry on each trip – so far space has been reserved for some Camembert, Brie, olives and several crates of wine. If you have any requests for specific items to be included in a future trip, please email the details to audlemlasstodunkirk@audlem.org.

Joe and Rod are looking for volunteers to crew the Lass on these voyages – if you have any relevant naval experience (e.g. avoiding U-boats) please apply to the Combined Operations Room of the Audlem Lass Control Centre in the Public Bar of the Bridge Inn.
