Things have been busy at Kingbur Mill since our open day last summer. We’re back with an update to let you know our latest news and what’s happening next.
Our first goal was to have the second floor residential flat ready for the 2026 spring and summer holiday season. It was a family effort, with our children (16, 15 and 12) joining in to paint, build furniture, break down boxes, iron the bedding for photographs and more. It’s now available for bookings from Easter onwards, so do check us out online in the usual place that you’d expect to find holiday rentals.
We’ve teamed up with the Audlem Music & Arts Festival to lend the ground and first floors of the mill as a venue over the May Spring Bank holiday weekend this year. Now in its 26th year, the festival team brings new twists to the format each time, building on what works well – and this year, that’s us! The mill’s prominent location within the festival “circuit” makes it an ideal addition, hosting local craft and trade stalls and expanding the mix of arts that are already on offer, including the art exhibition and theatre at the village hall. Opening the shop doors for the first time since November 2024, it’s also a chance to showcase the mill’s future potential as a vibrant venue in the heart of Audlem wharf.
We received some great feedback and ideas at last year’s open day. We've also been having conversations with existing businesses in Audlem to make sure that what we do supports and works with what is already here. Feedback from the open day suggested that locals and boaters are looking for a cafe or bakery, somewhere to buy local and artisan goods and a space to meet for workshops or courses. We’re now actively looking for commercial tenants, with the help of a letting agency in Nantwich. We agree that an “emporium”-type approach would be a great addition to the village, and particularly hope to hear from businesses who share this vision and want to join us on this journey.
Di and family, Kingbur Mill
