Each month, the Audlem Online team sends a 500-word article about the village to the publishers of the Whitchurch Gossip and Market Drayton Gossip magazines.

These excellent publications are widely (and freely) distributed in North Shropshire and many in Audlem see a copy, particularly of the Whitchurch magazine. Many of our readers, however, are outside their distribution area.

We thought you might like to read what we said about the village earlier this month in the July issues:

Audlem – the Events Village

The Audlem Transport Festival on 29th July will see the south Cheshire village packed with fascinating vehicles.

Around three hundred vintage and classic cars, motor cycles, buses, commercial and agricultural vehicles will parade through the village before assembling on the playing field for closer inspection by the large crowds that turn up each year to this popular free event.

All the vehicles gather at nearby Hankelow before driving to Audlem. Crowds line the village streets, and there’s an informative commentary describing each vehicle as they drive past.

As well as the hundreds of wheeled attractions, there will be much to see on the canal at Audlem Wharf with a Gathering of Historic Narrow Boats organised by Audlem Mill. Reports indicate a record number of vintage boats will be moored so it will be well worth walking down the footpath from the playing field to Audlem Wharf on the day.

You can also take a trip on the canal with the Audlem Lass boat service that runs from Lock 15 to the Overwater Marina. This new service was launched last year and has been very popular and which raises large sums of money for the RNLI, the lifeboat charity.

The Audlem 2012 leaflet, available in local Tourist Information Centres and shops, pubs and cafés in the village, details all the year’s major events and also includes five local walks as well as information and maps listing the attractions and facilities to be enjoyed on an Audlem visit.

You can also check out village news on the very popular Audlem Online website (www.audlem.org) which publishes a range of news every day of the year.

Midsummer Music returned to Audlem earlier this month with a Jubilee Party on the Park with hugely talented tribute bands and organised by the Audlem Special Events Team (ASET).

Audlem organises events throughout the year and they play a massive part in attracting visitors and ensuring the village maintains its reputation as a vibrant place to live and visit. Events this year included the five day Audlem Festival at the end of May that brought musicians from all over the country to the village.

Recent months have also seen the Audlem Charity Shop Open Garden and a very successful ‘Safety Afloat’ day at the nearby Overwater Marina.
Coming up in August is the Audlem Beer Festival. This event was launched in 2010 and will be back this year over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Perhaps the busiest evening of the year in Audlem is Bonfire & Fireworks Night, this year on Saturday 3rd November. Last year, huge numbers turned up for the spectacular computerised fireworks display and the reaction from locals and visitors alike was amazement at the quality of the display which was set to music.

That display, and other winter events are still many months off. In the meantime, do come and sample a great Audlem event with the Transport Festival on 29th July. You will not be disappointed.
