Autumn

Autumn, to me, is a closing down time...
Rather like a shop- but without a written sign!
If it were to have a sign, I'm sure it would read -
"Closing down – due to the season -
Opening again in the Spring"

It is a time when the trees
Begin to lose their summer glory
Greens, turning into hues of yellow, brown and gold
Leaves fall – the trees become skeletal -
With a beauty of their own,
Outlined against the skyline -
An artist's delight.

Flowers wilt, their days numbered
And all animals don their winter coats -
Mother nature playing her part.

We ourselves begin to feel the chill
The wind, no longer a breeze
Whistles down the dale and hill
As if to say "we're here,
And we are here to stay "

The nights are drawing in, fast now.
The house seems cold! "Put on some heat -
Need a warmer duvet, and
Shut that door", we begin to say!

We know there is reason for this season
We just wait for Mother nature
To deliver winter -
And our future.
