August

A month just waiting to surprise us
In many many ways.
A promise of more sunshine perhaps
Just enough to enjoy
While we still have long days.

And August is a bountiful month
Plenty of fruit and veg.
In gardens, on trees and in the hedgerows.
They supply us with the best!

So pick what you can,
Eat what you can,
Then freeze, bottle or preserve the rest
If there's anything left behind -
That is!
And, if you have the mind!

Because:-
In the midst of winter
What do you crave -
Besides the warmth of the sun?
A taste of summer – a morsel
Hand-picked or grown.

Back to the month of August -
This is the time to take care,
When those boozy, woozy wasps,
Drunk with the juice of the fruit,
Are on the wing,
Declaring war!
And they "Don't Arf" give a nasty sting!
