Jack Nield's 100th birthday earlier this week (see www.audlem.org on 5th January) has attracted much press interest. There was a story and picture in the Shropshire Star while today's Nantwich Chronicle also features a large story and picture of Jack with his telegram from the Queen.

And Jack is still very active, the Chronicle reports, with 20 minutes on his exercise bike three times each day. As well as being an excellent fly fisherman and horseman, Jack was also a very keen badminton player and was still playing the sport in his 70's. He said: "Badminton was one of my favourite sports and I had great fun being a jockey, winning quite a few silver cups with the North Satffordshire Hunt. I went to Scotland and Ireland a lot and once caught a salmon weighing over 15 pounds in the River Tay in Scotland."

Jack celebrated his birthday with a big party surrounded by friends and family on Sunday evening.
