(The website link that was here no longer works) The top of the bill singer had just arrived from New York. Her guitarist had flown in from Florida. There was a guest appearance by one of Britain's top singer/songwriters. It sounds like a top London music venue but it was, you've got it in one, Friday night at the Shroppie Fly with a very special offering of great music. Michigan born, but New York based 'Mary Lee's Corvette', real name Cortez, had only arrived from New York at 8.00pm on Thursday night but it was straight to the Shroppie to perform with Audlem's favourite musician, Jim Kirkpatrick. Jim too was just back from the States where, at the famous Hogs Breath venue in the Florida Keys, he had played with two members of the Mavericks of 'Dance the Night Away' fame. To top it all, Thea Gilmore, one of the country's most highly rated musicians, was also up on stage accompanied by musician and record producer Nigel Stonier. It was a memorable night with wonderfully engaging music from internationally known artists. (The website link that was here no longer works) And that's not all. It's an amazing weekend of music at the Shroppie with, on Saturday night, Silva playing while Sunday sees 'Jake Stigers and the Velvet Roots' supported by 'Rockin Horse' for another one-off special. Jake is the brother of the famous jazz musician Curtis Stigers. The Shroppie is clearly on the music map because straight after Audlem, Jake and his band are playing at the legendary Cavern Club in Liverpool. On Monday there is, of course, the well established Folk Jam night. Friday night's music has set a standard but there is so much to come. The pub was packed Friday night and so it should be with music like this throughout the weekend.
