Last evening I received an email supposedly from GMP (Greater Manchester Police) headed "notice of intended prosecution" (NIP).
It was alleged that I had done 89 miles an hour on Princess Road, Manchester – a 35 mph area.
Strangely at this time I was at the surgery in Audlem .
If you receive this email DON'T open any links it contains – go to the GMP web site which confirms this is a scam and gives advice here on how to deal with it.
The GMP help lines are very busy so repeated advice is to go to the GMP website.
AudlemOnline received one of these messages – it's very odd because the offence will almost certainly be very easy to disprove (as in Rod's case above) and the speed limit quoted is usually something like 25 or 35 mph, which as far as we know are not used as speed limits. The danger is that you pursue the links out of curiosity – DON'T.
