In the Summertime by Adrian Leighton

Does three sunny days make Summer? Anyway, it feels more Summery when the weather is fine.

To encourage us in our seasonal hopes, the second of our seasonal wildlife walks leaflets for Turnpike Fields is now available.

This different walk route takes us past spots where summer species have been observed over the past few years. There is an increased number of featured species including summer insects.

We hope that, following the well-received Spring walk leaflet, that the Summer version will encourage us to get out, experience and enjoy the natural world we have on our very own doorstep.

This new leaflet includes insects , especially whose found about our ponds. These will have been in larvae form in the pond over-winter and are now emerging. Already sighted has been the Common Red Damselfly (not featured). Also included is a selection of the 13 types of grasses we have in the fields.

When using the leaflet, you may not be fortunate enough to see all those featured, as the natural world does always follow our plans. In a way that is what can make the experience of finding and seeing plants and creatures going about their lives an experience of joy and surprise for us.

When walking the fields, If you see any wildlife that you think interesting or are puzzled about please contact me, adrianleighton@btinternet.com.

The leaflets may be obtained free from the box on the notice board in the Fields or Williams (Newsagents) or Pau shop.
