Last year marked the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War. We remember with pride the sacrifices brave men and women made in 1914 and in subsequent conflicts over the past hundred years to ensure that our Nation remains "free" – We will always be indebted to both them and to our Allies.
To mark the 100th anniversary, Oxley's Funeral Services, together with Oxley's Monumental Mason's commissioned and donated a large granite poppy from our granite supplier in India. Made from Ruby Red granite which is the most suitable material due to it's natural red colour, is also symbolic of India's connection through the Commonwealth and the role they themselves played in WW1.
The 750kg and 3ft wide poppy can be viewed at Crewe's Memorial Square.
The poppy base is engraved with a clock face and rests at the position of 11 o'clock to mark Remembrance Day. It really is well worth a visit to see a wonderful tribute to all those who gave their lives for our country
Audlem's miniature replica poppy is now on display in The Flower Divas.
