Roland writes – Dear Editor, I know I bang on about this but believe that this message needs to reach as many people as possible. As with my other submission I will also share this with our MP, Head of CE, Head of Planning and of course our Ward Councillor, Rachel Bailey. It may be of interest to your readers though most are probably already aware of the dangers. My submission reads: How many warnings will it take?
I noticed last night that there's been a second bridge strike in as many years on the River Weaver bridge just down the road from the canal bridge in the centre of Audlem. The canal bridge that, if Muller s planning application for 127 houses goes through, will mean that between 400 to 500 extra pedestrians will need to cross it to use any amenities in the village. As previously said it's the only way you can get into the village from the new houses. Just to be clear, both the canal bridge and River Weaver bridge are both within the 30 mph area and it looks like the road width is similar.
The only difference appears to be that there is a pavement over the canal bridge and large vehicles, at busy times can mount the pavement rather than hit the bridge wall. (To be completely fair in making this point there is a second slightly wider footpath on the other side of the road). It looks, however, like the poor pedestrians are expendable as adding 400 to 500 extra pedestrians crossing the bridge once or twice a day, to use the facilities, including the children needing to get to school, and then cross back outs them in the line of fire if the planning goes ahead! I ll say it again, houses built in the wrong place and lives being put at risk. Someone has to listen as once built these houses can t be moved.
