AudlemOnline has received this warning from Action Fraud via the Neighbourhood Watch organisation.
Fraudsters are texting members of the public offering a tax rebate. The text message contains a link to a website and requests to provide personal information, such as bank account information, to claim the non-existent rebate.
If you have provided personal information and you are concerned that your identity may be compromised consider Cifas* Protection Registration.
Cifas describes itself as a not-for-profit organisation, whose website page for individual registration can be found here.
It is not free, and it is not necessarily for everyone – their website says
Cifas Protective Registration will not be for everyone. Cifas Protective Registration is only for people whose identities are at heightened risk. The service works by prompting Cifas members to carry out extra checks to prove your identity to prevent further fraud. This can mean that genuine applications take slightly longer to process while checks are carried out.
