History under the carpet!

I have recently removed an old carpet from my bedroom and also an old liner which must have been put down when the houses were built. Lifting them, I found old newspapers that had been there many years.

They include an article in one old newspaper dated February 8th 1947. It features a photo of what appears to be a complete farm arriving at Audlem railway station on a snowy day from a farm in Westmorland, a hundred miles away.

The farmer was a Mr Stephen Wood of Kaker Mill, Milnthorpe. It appears he missed the train so when it arrived at Audlem the station staff were left with the experience of looking after a herd of sixty cows!

Apparently a Mr C Williamson of the Bungalow, Hankelow turned up with four workmen who volunteered to help unload the stock and drive them to their new home at Hankelow Manor Farm.

There's much more, but a little too much to write down in full. I would love to know if anyone would be interested in looking at it and to put it on the Audlem website for everyone to read. There is also a picture of them leaving the station.
