Wistaston Hall

On Wednesday members of the History society were shown around Wistaston Hall, a beautifully preserved old building now used as an Oblate Retreat Centre for many different groups and individuals.

Surrounded by lovely peaceful gardens the owners have donated land outside to the community for parkland, not to be built on. After the tour there was a summary of the history of the hall. We had heard a talk on the history of Wistaston previously which of course had mentioned the hall.

Queen's Park

Following a very good value pub lunch at the Woodside pub we carried on to Queen's Park, Crewe now refurbished and looking very cheerful in the sunshine. We saw the Burma Star memorial, the Princess Diana memorial, the immaculate bowling green and flower displays.

Thanks to Maureen Morgan who arranged the trip as her ancestors had worked and lived at the hall and she had also given us a talk on the history of the park which she had often visited as a child and still does.
