Harvest Celebrations!

School has been full of Harvest songs, poems and prayers this week as the children and staff prepare for our special service at St James' Church next Tuesday. It has been wonderful to hear the energy and enthusiasm in each class as everyone has been sharing ideas about this special time of year. If you are able to help to walk the children down to church from school at 9.15am please let the school office know.
I look forward to sharing this special occasion with you and your children.

Our School Parliament representatives have been voted for and I am pleased to announce the names of
our new representatives for this school year. These children are:

  • Reception: Emma Kay and Ollie Binns
  • Year 1: Jonny Fellows and Magnus Smallwood
  • Year 2: Isabella Woods and Benji Cole
  • Year 3: Harry Huntbach and Harrison Saunders
  • Year 4: Joe Jones and Poppy Wycherley
  • Year 5: Eloise Weatherstone and Maisy Goodwin
  • Year 6: Abbie Bradbury Smith and Jordan Harding

They will be joined at their meetings by our Head and Vice Head Boys and Girls, Molly
Sullivan, Jenna Gavin, Riley Capewell and Owen Lewis.

Mr Perry has already held several School Parliament meetings where our new representatives have met to
discuss some of the ways the Parliament will work this year. Jordan Harding and Abbie Bradbury Smith
are our new Chair and Vice Chair, Jenna Gavin is our new Secretary and Maisy Goodwin and Benji Cole are
our new Treasurers. I am looking forward to giving you regular updates about their work!

Our newly elected School Parliament have chosen Nantwich Food bank as the charity to help as part of our
Harvest work this year. I have been tremendously impressed with the thought and care members of the
School Parliament have given to this decision and I know the families who will benefit from the donations
sent into school will be very grateful. Please send any donations into school by Friday 9th October so they
can all be passed on. Many thanks.

Our Year 4 and 5 children travelled to Brine Leas High School on Thursday to rehearse for their special
'Singfest 2016' performance next term. They all learnt a range of new songs from films and different
cultures. I know they will be working hard to learn all of the words with Mrs Stoker over the coming
months and look forward to hearing their rehearsals!

Jenna Gavin, Molly Sullivan, Christina Bugeja and Riley Capewell represented our school at a Maths '24'
tournament yesterday where they competed against 32 other children from local schools using their
mental maths skills to gain points. Mrs Bird was thrilled with the children's enthusiasm and great
sportsmanship at the event. All four children won games and our school was also represented in the semi
final – an amazing achievement as none of the children have played this maths game for very long! Well
done to you all!

Our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors invited me to their meeting this week and I was delighted to hear all of
their great ideas and plans for their work in school this year. They are busy preparing an assembly for
school and are also going to be working with PCSO Nick Jarvis and Mr Perry to plan projects and events
throughout the year. They have impressed me with the commitment they have shown so far to this
important role in school.
This week's Praise Book children are:

  • Mrs Hayward's Class – Isla Rowe
  • Miss Danha's Class – Heidi Woods
  • Mrs Richardsons' and Mr Morrey's Class – Hugh George
  • Mrs Stoker's Class – Aaron Childs
  • Mr Perry's Class – Elsie May Cottrell
  • Mrs Bird's Class – Milla Maleci

Congratulations to you all!

Update – Open Morning in School
Our Open Morning next Wednesday is for prospective parents who do not already have a child attending our school.
As in previous years, we are holding a series of sessions for parents with children already in our school throughout the
year. These sessions are for current parents to come in and get a feel for learning in our school.

Polite reminders
In the interests of health and safety we ask that no dogs be brought on to school grounds at drop off and pick up
time (carried or walking on a lead). I would also ask that all dog owners are mindful of children and families when
using the public footpath running alongside our school car park and ABC Childcare; please ensure all dogs are kept on
leads on the public footpath as all times.

Earlier this term I reminded parent and carers to be considerate to our local residents and of the safety of
pedestrians when parking at the beginning and end of the school day. A local resident has contacted me this week as
they have had their driveway blocked by cars at these times. As you are aware, we work closely with PCSO Nick
Jarvis who regularly monitors parking outside our school, I am including this message from Nick, which was sent out to
all families last year, reiterating the importance of this matter:

"Parking blocking a private driveway or the pavement is the offence of 'unnecessary obstruction' and vehicles can be issued with a NonEndorsable Fixed Penalty ticket costing the vehicle owner £30. Worst case scenario is that a vehicle could be towed away at the expense
of the owner.
Please remember when parking you must leave room for vehicles to pass. Local residents are concerned that emergency vehicles such as fire and ambulance would struggle to get past on Heathfield Road during the busy periods and that pedestrians have to walk on the road
due to blocked pavements.
I understand it can be difficult to find spaces because of the number of vehicles attending at these times. Please just take a few seconds to look where you have parked, making sure you are not committing any offences. THIS IS ALSO FOR THE SAFETY OF YOUR
CHILDREN."
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation with regards to these matters.

Finally
It is important that our newsletter and all other forms of communication we send out to parents and carers, give you
a clear and detailed picture of our work in school, so that you are kept up to date with events in school and our
community. If you have any ideas, comments or suggestions about the content of newsletters please get in touch with me.
