At last night’s Community Pride Competition, organised by Cheshire Community Action, Hankelow were surprise winners of the Community Spirit Award for 2012.

The award, for the most active community with a population under 5,000, was received by Val Perkins on behalf of Hankelow Parish Council.  As she handed over the award, Mrs Kathy Benn MBE (Chairman of Cheshire Community Action), described Hankelow as “the little village with a big heart” – and this description was warmly appreciated by the large audience gathered in Middlewich Civic Hall.

For the first time in many years, Audlem did not receive one of the major awards, but there was a “Little Gem Award” for the churchyard which was accepted on Audlem’s behalf by Chairman of the Parish Council, Kate Down.
