Regular readers will recall an article about the problems many have been having after using the large car park at Gresty Road next to the Crewe Alex football ground.

A number of people – including AudlemOnline's editor – have received letters asking for £100 despite having paid the correct amount for the time parked. This is reduced to £60 if you pay up quickly.

If you believe you have paid the correct money to park, we warmly recommend that you do not pay but appeal, which you can do by email or letter. If you are correct, particularly if you have retained your parking ticket as proof, Parking Eye will accept your appeal and drop their demand.

A common cause of the problems is mistyping your car's registration number on the relatively new machines, easily done as at least one line of letters are not shown on one machine, or when it is dark or you have a queue of impatient drivers behind you.

What you type is linked to the cameras that photograph you entering and leaving and a mismatch between the entered car registration number and the number recognition cameras will result in a fine.

Fight it, however, and on the experience of a number of Audlem residents, the 'fine' will be dropped. And as a precaution, always keep you parking ticket – just in case you receive one Parking Eye's letters.
