Good news for roads campaigners

There's good news for campaigners in both Audlem and Hankelow.

Cheshire East are said to be changing the road signs shortly on the A525 to reflect its removal from the Primary Route Network which, possibly, will help reduce the number of Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) passing through the village.

Following a sustained campaign by Hankelow residents in recent years, Hankelow Parish Council has also been told that a 30mph limit is to be introduced on the A529 through their village by Cheshire East under Highway Scheme MHWP356 this month.

Traffic speed on that road has long beem a concern in Hankelow, particularly with a difficult junction in the village centre for vehicles turning into the road from Longhill Lane.

This new speed limit was supported by respondents to the questionnaire in the recently published Hankelow Parish Plan and at public meetings held by the Hankelow Improvement Team.

The Hankelow Parish Plan team also wants to work with Hankelow and Audlem Parish Councils to investigate the creation of a continuous footpath between the villages.

At present there is a 500m gap in the pavement at the bends past Corbrook Court. Pedestrians also have to cross the road near this point as the Audlem end of the pavement is on the opposite side of the road to the Hankelow end.
