Good news for Audlem school

Audlem St James CE Primary School has been recognised as a ‘much improved’ school with examples of outstanding teaching in its latest Ofsted inspection report.

The official body for inspecting schools judged the Heathfield Road school as ‘requiring improvement’ under its new framework but recognised that ‘robust improvements’ had already been made and noted the ‘accelerated progress’ pupils are now making as a result.

Inspectors identified ‘raised expectations’ which are ‘bringing about rapid changes for the better’ and ‘highly-committed staff’ at the school whilst observations about teaching highlighted ‘the good and sometimes outstanding teaching which has accelerated pupils’ progress’.

The changes in curriculum were highlighted and inspectors felt the school ‘provides a rich and varied range of learning experiences for pupils’.

Comments were also made on the children’s high standards of behaviour and ‘positive attitudes to learning and good relations between pupils and with adults’.

Headteacher Rebecca Jewitt, chairman of the school’s IEB (interim executive board), Derek Barnes, and Janet Furber, chairman of the shadow governing body, are pleased with the outcomes of the inspection and they believe it accurately judges the present position.

The school is determined to ensure progress continues so that by the time of the next inspection, anticipated within two years, it can be judged as at least ‘good’, and hopefully ‘outstanding’.

The report recognises the journey the school is on and the ‘very effective support and challenge’ that the IEB has provided throughout.

Inspectors were clear the ‘school clearly has the ability to manage its own future improvement’ and that ‘there are very focused whole-school plans for driving further improvement’ in school.

The final judgements were based on evidence over time, not just current performance and evidence.
